About TLA

Our Mission

Mission

Working collaboratively as a professional learning community we will close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college, career readiness, to be successful in a global society, and utilizing their imaginations and critical thinking skills.

Vision

We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of our school is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community. We envision a school in which staff provide high quality learning to all our students and prepare them to be compassionate lifelong leaders, learners, thinkers, preparing for the future while having success for today.

Dear parents and families of Taylor Leadership Academy,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 academic school year at Taylor Leadership Academy. With great anticipation, I look forward to the new school year and the opportunity to meet you and your scholars. Together at Taylor Leadership Academy, we will continue to work collaboratively as a team of parents, staff, and community members to provide all of our scholars with the highest quality educational programs possible and to build stronger partnerships with our stakeholders and neighborhood organizations.

The staff and I have high expectations for student engagement, student conduct, and academic achievement and hold all of our scholars to the highest expectations for academic excellence. In addition, we believe that all scholars should be challenged with a rigorous learning experience in a nurturing and engaging environment. To make it possible, we encourage our parents to become active partners in their scholars' educational experiences. Through a collective effort between the school and its families, we will prepare all of our scholars to become lifelong learners and productive citizens in the community.

We hope this will be an exciting, promising, and successful school year for all our scholars.  As a community of leaders, learners, and thinkers, we will prepare our scholars for the future.

Respectfully,

Mr. Yang

Hello Taylor Vikings and Community!

My name is Rebecca Abellana-Delvo, and I am thrilled to take on the role of Assistant Principal at Taylor Leadership Academy [TLA]. I grew up in Stockton, where I graduated from Amos Alonzo Stagg High School, and I’m proud to now be serving in the community that shaped me. After high school, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and teaching credential from San Francisco State University, followed by a master’s in Educational and Instructional Technology. Over the past twelve years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching and coaching in Stockton Unified School District, working with students across both elementary and middle school levels—from third grade to seventh and eighth grade.

Although many might assume it was my parents, both educators in the Philippines, who inspired my path in education, it was actually an experience from my own childhood that shaped my journey. At just six years old, as a new English language learner and foreigner in a first-grade classroom, I unintentionally committed a cultural faux pas. In hindsight, that moment had a lasting impact on me—it sparked my passion for education and ignited my desire to support students, especially their social and emotional growth as they navigate the educational system. Growing up and working in underserved communities also opened my eyes to the inequities students face, motivating me to advocate for educational equity.

I am excited to join TLA because I believe in our shared mission and vision. As someone who experienced the California public school system as an English language learner, I understand the importance of providing diverse pathways for all students to learn and thrive. In my own classroom, I worked hard to create an inclusive environment that met the needs of all learners, and I’m committed to continuing this work here at TLA. As the world around us evolves, I am dedicated to growing alongside it, ensuring that we remain responsive to the ever-changing needs of our students.

With my background in education and my deep connection to this community, I am confident in my ability to step into the Assistant Principal role. It is an honor to continue my journey of serving students and contributing to a community I intentionally returned to after college. I look forward to working together with all of you to create a supportive and empowering environment for our students.

In service,
Rebecca Abellana-Delvo
